How To Shop For The Perfect Vacuum Cleaner
There are several factors which can make a vacuum cleaner more attractive. The most important factors include price, suction power, and versatility. Also narrowing down which vacuum is best for you starts with an overall comparison and being able to narrow down your needs to determine precisely what type of vacuum you require.
Robots – These automatic vacuum cleaners are fascinating and fun to watch. However, they are expensive and can take an hour to clean a 10×16 foot room. On the plus side, they will clean when you’re not home, but you have to move everything out of their way or the robo-vac will get stuck. These vacuums aren’t very effective and so much prep work is required before they can work, many people feel they might as well do it themselves.
Stick vacs – Designed for quick pickups, these vacuums don’t do much picking up especially on carpet. Customers found they usually just push stuff dirt and debris around and grind sand into the carpet where it can cut the fibers and cause damage. Cordless sweepers – Cordless sweepers are the best choice for quick sweeping. These vacuums don’t have suction. They work because the brushes rotate and pull the debris into the cleaner. Cordless vacuums are quiet and more effective than stick vacs.
When making comparisons, compare apples to apples. The best floor sweeper in the world won’t do as good a job as the worst vacuum cleaner, and an upright vacuum will handle differently than a canister. Cordless models won’t match the power of one that plugs into the wall. Don’t let fancy demonstrations cloud your ability to critically judge a product.
For carpets, make sure the vacuum has enough suction power, especially with deep pile styles. On the other hand, there’s no need for an energy hog if the situation just doesn’t call for it. Make sure the height can be adjusted high enough for your needs. If you or other persons in your household have long hair, get a vacuum that has a stainless steel brush roller with ball bearings. In general, metal components are better than plastic ones. Of course, they also make the unit heavier. If keeping dust out of the air is one of your goals (and it should be), choose a bag model over a bagless one. Look for an after motor “true HEPA filter” in a “sealed system”. Be aware that there’s no standard that sealed models must meet.
