The Famous Birdcage Magic Revealed

I once watched a trick performed by the legendary Magician Tommy Wonder. A solid birdcage is vanished right in front of me with his sleeves rolled up. Later I found that the trick was popular in the old time. Many magicians had given thoughts on this fabulous trick. One of them is Clarence Slyter.

Slyter uses the arm pull. But he has a spring heavy reel attached to the strap on his left wrist. Before he is ready for the vanish the cord is sufficiently long to be easily attached to the cage. When the cage is in his hands he spreads his arms sufficiently to release the catch on the reel. This takes up the excess cord until it is sufficiently short to make the vanish in the usual way. A catch on the cord itself, entering the reel, prevents the cord from being pulled out under the force of the vanish. There are reels made which have sufficient strength to pull the cage into the sleeve or beneath the clothing when released.

For objects smaller and lighter than a cage, a props commonly used by magicians is an elastic pull. One popular model is called the ‘Raven’. In fact, David Blaine used it to vanish a coin on the back of the audience’s hand. The secret of it is an elastic cord fixed inside his jacket with another end attached to a magnet. At the beginning of the trick, David Blaine holds the magnet in his right hand secretly with a small fish string. A coin is placed on the back of the audience’s hand. As David Blaine’s hand is waved over the coin, the magnet attracted the coin and at the same time he releases the string so that the coin and the magnet fly back inside his jacket. His both hands can then be shown empty and the coin vanished into thin air.

Classic magicians wearing tux on stages have been using this same principle for ages. One example is the Chimney Vanish. A colored silk is placed inside a transparent tube. The tube is shown to the spectators with the silk clearly visible inside. The magician shouts ‘hoop!’ and the silk is gone. This is elegant but not as magical as David Blaine.

Many pulls were invented to vanish objects. In this trick, a so-called Flash Pull is used. The pull is a mechanical device powered by a strong spring. A retraction reel is used to retract some loops of string. The string can be pulled out from the reel and is automatically retracted upon release. Usually a button is also built in to hold the string at a certain length. And when needed the button is pushed and the handkerchief attached would fly back to the reel, which is usually hidden inside the sleeve.

This pull principle is used in many other tricks besides the vanishing birdcage. For most of the time, special props constructed in disguise of some ordinary objects. These are used according to the need of the theme of the trick. I have seen lamps, dolls, umbrellas and other large objects vanished with this technique. Usually they are made collapsible. Pulls of other power source can also be adapted, like gravity, electric motor or hidden assistant.

Proper Backyard Swing Set Maintenance

If you want to have your backyard swing sets for several years, keeping them clean and groomed is essential. You have to regularly clean and maintain your swing sets well so that you will be able not only to keep them for a long time, but to keep your kids safe from infections and possible diseases from the germs and the molds forming in the play set.

If you have a wooden play set at your backyard, the best time to clean it is right after the winter season. This is so because during this time bacteria and mildew are easiest to remove. Most people think that cleaning their outdoor swing sets is a very cumbersome task – swing sets are too huge and cleaning them will most likely take the an entire afternoon. But if you know how to effectively clean your backyard swing sets, it will not take that long.

Below are a few simple reminders in cleaning your outdoor play sets. Keep these things in mind the next time you clean your outdoor play set. These tips will walk you through the cleaning of your swing sets quickly and easily.

First, you need to soak your outdoor swing set for a while before actually cleaning it. Soaking simply means spraying the entire swing set with water and let the water sit for some time. Do not hose your swing set down because you might destroy the special coatings of the swing or break some parts off. Soak the swing by spraying plain water, and this will save you a lot of time scrubbing.

After an hour to two, you can then clean the heavily soiled portions of the swing set. Most swing sets are dirty at the bottom parts of their legs, as well as the areas where the hands of your kids mostly stay such as the handles and the bars. Scrub these areas thoroughly using water only – your special swing cleaners and detergents will come after you scrub the dirt off with water first. After scrubbing, rinse it clean with water.

As soon as you remove all the dirt, you can then clean your outdoor swing set with a cleaner or a detergent to disinfect. However, be careful not to use too much of these cleansers for they can be harmful to both the swing and your kids. Any residue and remains might ruin your swing set’s finish as well as harm your kids’ health. For metal swing sets, using a non-corrosive cleaning detergent is a must. You can also use eco-friendly cleaners if you have grass and plants in your backyard. And to make your entire cleaning process easier, do it from top to bottom.

You Should Not Dispose Of Those Old Tea Sets

If you are a parent whose children have grown up and moved out, then you must be wondering what to do with their toys. Well, how about using them for decorating your house?

Those small tea sets among your children’s toys can prove to be wonderful for household decorations.

You can make use of some old shredded paper. Most of us just throw shredded paper in the recycle bin. How about just putting it in your children’s tea cups?

Once you have placed the paper inside the cups, what you need are a bunch of artificial flowers. For this you will need to go down to your nearest arts and crafts store.

The stems of the flowers will need to be cut off. Otherwise, the flowers will not sit on top of the cup. If you don’t want to place artificial flowers in the cups, then you can try something else. You can also turn them into candy dishes.

You need to get a rubber kit and some extra strong glue for this. You will easily be able to find one at your nearby arts and crafts store. All you need to do is to glue the rubber piece at the bottom of the cup.

Very good glue for sticking the rubber to the cup is wood glue. You need to place the cup on the rubber and then cut the rubber into the shape of the tea cup.

Once it has been cut into the shape of the tea cup, you need to put the glue on the rubber piece. Press the cup slightly and hold it for a few seconds. Now the glue needs to dry.

Your candy dishes are ready. You can put some candy into it. The rubber will work as a stopper and will prevent it from sliding off the table. Not to mention the fact that this decorative item will be something special providing a really good look to your room.

This candy dish can also be used as a centerpiece. When you have guests in your house, it can be placed in the kitchen with dinner mints in it. If you have a party at your house, this can again be used a centerpiece.
